Lars, an alcoholic trucker who has just found out he's about to become a father, crashes into a motorcycle driven by Anna, the village postmistress, who dies instantly. Believing the road to be deserted, he hides the body and returns home without delivering his cargo.
When Anna's corpse is discovered by her husband Ingvar, he and the rest of the village see red. They believe that Alaina Bosnian refugee who's working for Lars' brother Johannesis the guilty party. Convinced of Alain's innocence, Johannes, his wife and their two children welcome him into their home. Ingvar and several other villagers get drunk one night and surround the remote property. By keeping silent, Lars risks causing the death of his brother's entire family.
